Our Guide to Shopping

In the absence of searing heat and a chance to lie by the pool, autumn is the perfect time for a spot of shopping...

Florence is blessed with great markets where you can pick up a bargain or three. Our personal favourite is San Lorenzo market, a great place to find belts, wallets, leather-bound journals and especially, Handbag Heaven. Recently there with a girlfriend who was looking for a journal for a friend, we returned home with 4 handbags between us, as well as three journals, a belt and a scarf. Affordable, on trend and in every colour under the sun, this is the place to do your Christmas shopping!

The Porcellino Market

A little stroll later, the famous Porcellino Market does much the same, with a slightly smaller selection. Amble through the narrow leather-scented pathways and take your pick at leather galore, before ambling round the corner for a cioccolata calda at the famous Bar Rivoire.

To Barberino Outlet and Beyond

Another unmissable stop for the true shopping aficionados is the Outlet at Barberino di Mugello. Only thirty minutes away from Torre di Sopra on the motorway, the outlet offers some proper bargains on big labels from Gucci, Prada, Moschino to Armani and others as well as tax free shopping for non-EU citizens. Open Monday-Sunday, 10.00-20.00. info.barberino@mcarthurglen.com.
